Martin Samuel Buchli was born in Urmein, Graubünden, Switzerland in 1866 to Christian Buchli and Anna Maria (Schumacher) Buchli. His father died when Martin was eight years old. Martin was a hard worker and determined to have a better life in the United States. He emigrated to the U.S. arriving in New York on May 21, 1890. He then went to Buffalo County, Wisconsin, where many of his countrymen had settled. He worked for farmers in the area for the next two years. Martin purchased land in Montana, Buffalo County, Wisconsin. He married Louisa Florin on March 2, 1893 in Montana. He was well known and respected as a farmer and built a three-story house for his family. They had four children, the oldest a girl, Anna, and three sons, Arthur, Elmer and Louis. He died suddenly at the age of 42 in December 1908. He was buried in the Montana Methodist Cemetery.

Mr. Martin Buchli, whose sudden death has already been reported by this source, was born in the Canton of Graubunden in Switzerland, and would have been 43 years old January 7. In America about 18 years, his feet landed in Montana and married his surviving spouse Louise, born Florin, who with three sons and a daughter mourned at the bier of the deceased.

Through his hard work he was a successful farmer. The burial was heavily attended by the congregation of the city evangelical church.
