The second oldest of seventeen children, he was born November 16, 1922 in New Castle, Indiana, the son of Harold and Mossie Kiser Sleet. A 1941 graduate of Connersville High School, he was a member of the High School Band and the Varsity Basketball Team.
On September 25, 1942, he was married to Gladys Dorthea Clark in New Castle, Indiana.
He served in the US Army during World War II, saw action in the European Theater and was known as an expert rifleman. He was honorably discharged in December of 1945.
A member of the Jehovah's Witnesses Church, where served as one of the ministers for sixty-one years, for more than twenty-one years, he worked at Hassler's Dry Cleaning Company as a presser, retiring from there in 1987. In his leisure, he played trumpet with several jazz bands, was involved with the Whitewater Art Club and was a member of the Musicians' Union.
Besides his wife of seventy years, Gladys, he is survived by three daughters, Patricia Ann Patton and her husband Stanley of Rialto, California, Carol Jean Johnson of Connersville and Marka Lynn Cave and her husband Ron of Windsor, Connecticut, eight grandchildren, Vaughn (and Casey) Johnson, Stanya Davis, Deanne (and Tim) Lee, Shelly (and Jessie) Carlson, Cicely Johnson, Brian Baity, Micah (and Dustin) Wright and Greg Baity, fifteen great-grandchildren, Cedric, Quinton, Markiah, Tionna, Marvaughn, Dra'Kayle, Jada, Tyra, Jordan, Jackson, Lily, Coryn, Dustin, Jr., Sydney and Morgan, two brothers, John and Ernest Sleet, four sisters, Marian Hunt, Gloria (and Sam) Herd, Ellen (and Tom) Thompson and June Purvis, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mossie Sleet, five brothers, Frank, Bruce, Fred, David and Dale, five sisters, Evelyn, Donna, Rosemary, Barbara Jean and Charity, and a granddaughter, Kimberly.
