Dr. Pliny Adams Jewett graduated from Yale Medical College in 1839, after receiving a diploma from Trinity College at Hartford and pursued his studies in Paris for several years. Dr. Jewett first settled in practice, upon return, in New Haven, but soon moved to the South establishing himself at Aitkin, South Carolina where he remained three years when he returned home in the City of Elms, where he devoted himself to surgery. For 35 years, he was the Attending Surgeon at the New Haven Hospital, and for 12 years, he was Professor of Obstetrics in the medical department of Yale College. He was elected president of the Connecticut Medical Association in 1876.
