Carl E. Baker (1924 - 2013)

Carl E. Baker
Carl E. Baker, 89, slipped peacefully from this life Aug. 21, 2013, in Medford.
He was born May 26, 1924, in Ashton, Idaho, to Wallace W. and Avilda Baker, the fifth of 10 children. The family moved to Klamath Falls in 1935.
A graduate of Klamath Union High School, Carl joined the Army in June 1944 and served in the medical corps in Europe. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Carl met Leila Harvey and they married in 1948. He was employed by Ewauna Box Company, the Herald and News, Caradco, and the Klamath Falls Creamery, where he retired after more than 30 years.
Carl was a lifelong Christian and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a faithful home teacher and served in many callings in the church that included two stake missions. He and his family were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Taking care of his family was Carl's first priority and, after his brother Donald's death in 1958, he and Leila added Don's daughters Virginia and Donna to their already large family.
He loved fishing and woodworking. He was a talented musician and played the harmonica, guitar, piano and organ. He also loved sports and coached Little League baseball. He enjoyed riding motor scooters, motorcycles, and his go-cart and water-skiing with his family. He was an excellent gardener and always shared the harvest with friends, family and neighbors.
Carl is survived by Leila, his wife of 65 years; children and their spouses David (Margaret) of Spokane, Wash.; Nancy of Napa, Calif.; and Suzie (Gene) Badker, Jim (Elaine), Michael (Ladonna), Dale, Bill (Nancy), Joann (Greg) Hobbs, and Beth Blansett, all of Klamath Falls; nieces Virginia (Scott) Davis of Portland, and Donna (Ed) Hanson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother and his wife Earl and Anita of Brentwood, Calif.; sisters Janice Davis, Erma West, Norma Rekar, Louise Hansen, and Doris and Jim Drake; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Donald and Gerald and sister Lois Stults.
The Baker family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the workers and staff at Farmington Square Senior Care in Medford for their compassionate, loving and gentle care of our beloved husband and father.
O'Hair Funeral Chapel is handling the final arrangements. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 10 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Home and Martin Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund, in care of Bishop Kenneth Coffman, 1824 Ginger Lane, Klamath Falls, OR 97601.
