Rosemary and her husband moved near to Beeville, Texas, in the late 1940's. There she started her family as a stay-at-home mother in a small country home. She was traditional in her activities, making clothes for the family, maintaining a large garden to raise food for the family, canning, preparing three meals a day for her growing family, feeding chickens and gathering eggs, all without modern conveniences.
When her husband was transferred to Victoria, Texas, her children were in school, so she accepted a job at Sears to help put three children through high school and college. During this time, she was also a member of the Mother's Clubs at St. Josephs, Our Lady of Victory School, and Nazareth Academy.
Following the death of her husband, she began to focus on volunteer activities. She was particularly satisfied with her work at St. Mary's Catholic Church, both as a member of the Altar Society and at the rectory. A very rewarding part of this activity was the assistance she provided to priests new to Texas from Ghana. She would help them understand Texas culture and they would teach her about Ghana. Through this exchange, she broadened her view of the world and made lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, one son, Daniel, and her daughter, Mary Susan.
Her family would particularly like to acknowledge the work of Ms. Polly Dunnell, a caregiver and friend in Rosemary's later years, who made it possible for her to live in her own home as long as possible.
Interment will follow immediately at Resurrection Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of Beck Funeral Home, 15709 Ranch Rd. 620, Austin, Tx 78717, 512-244-3772.
