Freeda Kalmbach Bredberg was born May 21, 1906 in Kulm ND. She moved with her parents, Adam and Katherina Kalmbach, to the Fallon flats in 1911. She started her elementary education at Plum Coulee School and finished at Fallon. She also attended Terry High School and completed a business course at the Miles City Business Institute.

In 1926 she married Harold Bredberg in Fallon, where they made their home. Mr Bredberg preceded her in death in 1978. She was the last surviving member of her family of eight children. Mrs Bredberg was devoted to her family throughout her life. She enjoyed gardening and visiting with her friends.

In the spirit of keeping busy she began reporting the Fallon news for the Terry Tribune in 1937 and continued until her hospitalization in Miles City in June. She was also a volunteer canvasser for the American Red Cross, polio, heart and cancer drives. A personal highlight of her life was an all-expense paid trip won in 1946 to the Red Cross National Convention in Philadelphia.

Other groups in which she was active include the Parent-Teachers Association, Extension Homemakers Club, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Fallon Senior Citizens. She also served as school and county election judge since 1930. The organization to which she belonged the longest was the Evangelical Church, a member since her family had moved to Fallon in 1911.

Fred Bredberg, 86, died August 28, 1992 of cancer. Survivors include two sons, Harold “Sonny” Bredberg of Fallon and Gerry Bredberg of Rapid City SD; one daughter, Marlene (Merlyn) Hedin of Billings; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
