Alma Jeannine (Jean) White was born on November 1, 1929, in Greenville, S.C., the fifth of seven children born to Clarence Broadus Cooper and Lottie Lula Craft Cooper. Jean graduated in 1947 from Greenville High School and earned a baccalaureate degree in 1951 from Bob Jones University.

Jean married Robert (Bob) Leo White of Evansville, Ind., on June 5, 1953, at East Park Baptist Church in Greenville. Bob spent many years in the ministry and Jean faithfully supported him in his pastorates and music ministries. She began her career as a teacher in the Welcome Public Schools in Greenville. In 1971, Jean began a long career as a respected teacher and social services agency administrator at ARC of Evansville. She served in multiple capacities, starting and administering programs for people with intellectual and developmental challenges.

Jean was active her entire life. She played league baseball well into her 70s and was a fan of the Evansville Aces and the Indiana Hoosiers. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Jean White died on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, in Evansville.

Jean was survived at the time of her death by her husband, Bob White; her sons Scot White and wife Terry, and Thomas White; and her daughter Jeanna Costello and husband Terry. She was also survived by her grandchildren Krista Bryl and husband Jerimiah, Elizabeth Burgdorf and husband Eric, Robby Christian, and Russell Christian, and by ten great-grandchildren. Her siblings Margaret Cooper Sightler, Frances Cooper Edwards, and Wayne Cooper also survived her.

She was predeceased by her parents and by her brothers Charles Herbert Cooper, Clarence Wilbour Cooper, and Gerald Alton Cooper.

The family hosted visitation at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel in Evansville on Friday, September 11. A funeral was held Saturday morning, September 12, at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Jerimiah Bryl, Terry Costello, Russell Christian, Brian Dunne, Kevin Sightler, and Scot White. Entombment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery on East Virginia Street in Evansville.
