Earle Binford, DVM, 66 of Fortt Scott, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 1994, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Topeka. He established Binford Veterinary Service in Uniontown in 1959, when he graduated from Kansas State University. He continued his practice in the Uniontown area until 1990, when he retired and later moved to Fort Scott.

Binford was named Kansas Beterinary of the year in 1987 by Kansas Veterinary Medical Association. As an executive member of the State Board of Veterinary Examiners for over 20 year, Binford had held all offices. He was president KVMA in 1978.

During his terms as mayor Uniontown, Binford was involved in upgrading the town by promoting the sanitary sewer system, a municipally owned gas distribution system, upgrading the water treatment plan, improving the water distribution system and fire protection system. He helped promote and develop the first rural fire department in Bourbon County serving East and West Marion, Walnut and Franklin Townships.

Binford helped promote and develop the construction of Cottonwood Estates, the senior citizen housing complex in Uniontown.

He served as chairman of the Bourbon County Area Development Committee. He also served on the Southeast Kansas Area Development Committee of the Ozark Regional Planning Commission.

Binford had an active interest in the Masonic fraternal bodies in the area. He was a member of the Excelsior Lodge No. 115, AF&AM, Uniontown; York Rite of Iola; Scottish Rite Bodies of Fort Scott; Mirza Shrine Temple of Pittsburg; Olive Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Uniontown; past member of Mary A. Hepler Chapter, OES, Uniontown; Fidelis Deo Shring, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Fort Scott; Order of the Amaranth, Fort Scott. He was also a member of the Fort Scott Elks Lodge.

Binford was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a Life Guest Member Veterans of Foreign Wars; American Legion, Chanute.

Binford is a past president of Kansas State University Alumni Association. He served on the Dean’s Advisory Council at the university and was a member of the Kansas Board of Veterinary Examiners,

He was born May 14, 1928, in Wichita, the son of Robert Dick and Mabel Uarda Linsey Binford. He married B. Eilleen Keith on May 13, 1951, in Bentonville, Ark. She died Aug. 27, 1979. He married Opal Gray Boone on Nov. 23, 1979, in Fort Scott.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; his mother, Mabel Binford, a resident of Medicalodge of Fort Scott; one son, E. Dick Binford, Uniontown; four daughters, Sherry Buntain, Alton, Kan., Belinda Skiles, Marion, Kan., Ruth Ricci, San Jose, Calif., and Betsie Bradley, Mound City; one step-daughter, Lisa Constantine, Pleasanton, Calif.; one brother, Dr. R. Keith Binford, Laguna Nigel, Calif.; two sisters, Lindsey L. Jones, Denton, Texas, and Carrol K. Walker, Kipperl, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and one grandchild.

The Rev. Deane Endicott and the Rev. Bruce Burfield will conduct services at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Uniontown.

Burial will be in Uniontown Cemetery. Masonic ritualistic rites will be conducted by Uniontown Masonic Lodge.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children’s Transportation Fund, in care of the funeral home.
