MISS COATES DEAD
PROMINENT YOUNG WOMAN DIED AT FINLEY HOSPITAL LAST NIGHT
WAS SICK LESS THAN ONE WEEK

Underwent two Operations for Removal of Abscess Which Threatened the Brain
The announcement of the death of Miss Myra Coates which occurred at Finley Hospital last night at 9:45 o'clock, has occasioned deep sorrow throughout the entire community. The beloved young woman had been ill less than a week and on Thursday evening of last week she was removed to the hospital to undergo an operation for the removal of an abscess, which had formed back of the ear, close to the brain. An operation was performed Saturday that was unsatisfactory in its results and a specialist was hastily summoned from Chicago. The specialist performed a second operation, which failed to relieve the sufferer and her condition remained unchanged throughout Sunday night and Monday. A change for the worse was noticed at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon when the patient lapsed into unconsciousness and remained in that state until she answered the final summons. When the end came the death bed was surrounded by a saddened group of relatives and intimate friends who were summoned when it became known that the suffered had but a few hours more to live.
Miss Coates was born in this city twenty-five years ago. She was the youngest child of the late Hon. William Coates. She was a member of St Luke's Methodist Episcopal church and always took a deep interest in the young people's organization within the church. The deceased was beloved by all who knew her and many a worthy family has been made happy by her ministrations in time of sickness and want. The surviving members of the family are a brother and sister, Frank W. Coates and Mrs. George W. Kiesel.
