Early Life: Merlene was born July 13, 1945, in Provo, Utah, to Eugene Oliver and Edith Isom Herman. She graduated from Provo High School.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: On September 6, 1963, Merlene married James "Nate" Batty. Merlene fought a lifelong illness of heart disease due to rheumatic fever at age seven. She loved to cross-stitch, read, camp, spend time with her family and play with her grandkids. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which she spent her life in quiet service, touching the lives of many. Merlene was blessed with the opportunity to take her endowments out at the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple on July 12, 2003. Loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Merlene Herman Batty, 58, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2003.
Survived By: Her husband, Nate Batty of Provo; two children: Brent (Leslie) Batty, of Provo and Kenny (Heather) Batty, of Payson; seven grandchildren: J.D., Trent, Lindsay, Brady, Makenna, Braxton, and Mitchell; three sisters: Corrine (Johnny) Pugh, Helen (Elvin) Brown, Elaine (Paul) Peters; two brothers, Gene and Ron (Lenice).
