Born in Lexington, NC, on December 5, 1921, a daughter of Theddie Crawford "T.C." Cox (1890–1956) and Mary Rebecca Weaver Cox (1893–1983); wife of the late Olin West Watson (1918–1980) and Ray Doyle (2000).
Spent her childhood years in Denmark, SC, and later attended Winthrop University; married Olin, Jr. in 1941, and shortly thereafter, Lt. Watson was deployed with the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Many love letters were exchanged between Josephine and Olin during the war. She had a keen love of the American flag which she proudly flew over the years. Upon Olin's return, they moved to Elloree, SC.
After Olin's passing, she moved to Charleston several years later where she met and married Ray Doyle in Charleston in 1996. Ray shared her love of travel and they enjoyed many trips together.
Josephine loved the Lord and attended Elloree Methodist Church, Bethel Methodist Church in downtown Charleston as well as First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant.
After losing her eyesight in 2010, Josephine moved to the assisted living community of RoseCrest in Inman, SC, to be near her daughter.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary Glenn Watson Sheely (Chip), Susan Rebecca Watson Breeden (Lindsey), and Josephine "Josie" Watson Millweard (Rick); four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three nieces and nephews.
Also predeceased by siblings, Mary Crawford Cox Fairey (1918–1995), William Franklin Cox (1916-2001), and Albert Cox (1929–1953).
A private memorial service was held.
