There are two cemetery markers for John W. Wesley with different death dates. The correct memorial death date is September 17, 1862. This date is believed correct since the Wesley source book notes that John William Wesley was wounded on the Antietam battlefield on September 17, 1862 and either left on the battlefield and later buried there or transferred to a field hospital or one of the Richmond hospitals where he died."
