At near half-past 12 yesterday morning, Earl Barnes, one of our most respected, and while in the strength of his manhood, most useful citizens, whose early vigor had yielded to the weight of years, no pronounced symptoms of disease being visible, quietly passed from life to death at his old home, (Now the residence of his son-in-law, W. E. Doran) 44 North Washington Street. The deceased was a son of Gilbert Barnes, an old time citizen, and was born at Stoddartsvile, in this county, where the family then resided, on November 5, 1808. He was consequently in the 78th year of his age. As a boy, he learned the trade of a carpenter with his father, and in the early period of coal mining in this valley, was noted for his skill in the framing of heavy coal chutes and breakers about the mines. His wife who has been several years dead, was a daughter of George Eicke, for many years court crier, and they leave a family of three sons and two daughters, all grown to adult age. Gilbert, the oldest son, lives in Texas. Albert, the second, is the well-known court crier, which situation he has held since the death of N. G. Howe. the youngest son, Stewart, is well known in this community as an active Mason, past master of Lodge 61. Of the daughters, Elizabeth is the wife of undertaker W. E. Doron, while the youngest, Lavinia, is at home and unmarried.
The funeral will take place from the homestead residence, 44 North Washington Street, at 3 pm, on Saturday. Interment in the City Cemetery.
