Tressie Thompson Waggy Bridges, 94, of Bridgewater, Va., passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, peacefully at Harrisonburg Health & Rehab. Center in Harrisonburg, Va.

Tressie was born in Ruddle, W.Va., on Dec. 5, 1916, and was a daughter of the late George Otis and Bessie Alice (Hartman) Thompson.

She retired from Metro Pants in Bridgewater, Va., in 1980 after 21 years of service, and had worked at Marvell for nine years. She was a member of St. Andrews United Church of Christ in Weyers Cave, Va.

She was married twice. First to Mason E. Waggy on Sept. 14, 1934, and then to Scott B. Bridges on March 20, 1959, who preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 1979.

Tressie is survived by two daughters, Shirley W. Carr, widow of Sonny of Harrisonburg, Va., and Joan W. Ward and husband, Kenny, of Harrisonburg, Va.; and two sons, Roy E. Waggy and wife, Margaret, of Dayton, Va., and Earl R. Waggy and wife, Patricia, of Bridgewater, Va. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn W. Mongold; a son, George P. Waggy; a granddaughter, Darlene Bridges; six sisters, Reda Gauding, Nettie Alt, Annie Hedrick, Jessie Snyder, Viola Heavner, Donna Casidy; and nine brothers, Raymond Thompson, Denver Thompson, Ona Thompson, George Thompson, Ray Thompson, Clarence Thompson, Arlie Thompson, Oden Lee Thompson and Paul Thompson.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at the Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Bridgewater, Va., with the Rev. Doyle Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg, Va.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Bridgewater Rescue Squad, or St. Andrews United Church of Christ.
