"Earl W. Fleener, 89"
Earl W. Fleener, of Grundy Center, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, of natural causes at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center. He attained the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 3 days.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grunday Center. Rev. Max Paige officiated. A memorial fund has been established.
Earl was born on Feb. 24, 1910, in Poweshiek County the son of Clair and Ruby ‘Boget' Fleener. He was united in marriage to Ann Frericks on Nov. 6, 1951, in Waterloo. Earl served his country during WWII in the Navy. Earl worked as a barber and barber instructor for many years teaching in Des Moines, Davenport and Sioux City. His last barbership was in Holland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jimmy D. Fleener, a grandson, Keith Bryan; sister, Grace Nettleton; and two brothers, Lyle and Craig Fleener.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Fleener of Grundy Center; a son, Clair and his wife Stacey of Omaha, NE; a daughter, Janet Anderson of Searsboro; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gail Wildman of Reinbeck, Audrey and her husband Mel Dudolski of Lake Havasu City, AZ, and Louise and her husband Cal Taylor of Marshalltown.
Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
