John A. McArthur, 78, life resident of Rock county, died at 9 p.m. Wednesday in his home at Emerald Grove. He was born in the town of Bradford, June 3, 1862, and married Edna R. Akin, town of Lima, Sept. 22, 1892. They have spent all their married life on farms in the towns of Bradford and La Prairie. Mr. McArthur had been a member of the Emerald Grove Congregational church since 1886, and had served as a deacon for 27 years. He was a member of Camp No. 366, Modern Woodmen of America, and was active in community affairs. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Glenn Roy McArthur, Huron, S. D., and John Wm. McArthur, Rockford; two daughters, Miss Vina McArthur, Milwaukee, and Mrs. L. C. Church, Walworth; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. George L. Scott, Janesville, and Mrs. A. C. Van Galder, town of Bradford. A son, Donald James, died in infancy in 1916. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Whaley-Overton funeral home. The Rev. Tallmage Hartman of the Emerald Grove Congregational church, will officiate and burial will be in the Emerald Grove cemetery. [transcribed by Jon Saunders, contributor 47674050]
