Mrs. John A. McArthur, 87, life resident of Rock County, died at 7:25 p.m. Sunday in her home, 510 N. Garfield Ave. The former Edna R. Akin, daughter of William F. and Melvina E. Green Akin was born in Harmony Township June 15, 1873. She attended Whitewater Normal School and taught rural schools before her marriage Sept. 22, 1892, to John A. McArthur. They lived in Bradford and La Prairie Township. She was a member of Emerald Grove Congregational Church, had been active in its Ladies Aid Society. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution. Mr. McArthur died June 12, 1940, and a son in infancy. Surviving are two daughters, Vina A. McArthur, with whom she resided, and Mrs. Leonard C. Church Sr., Walworth; two sons, Glenne R., of Huron, S. D., and John W., of Peoria, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Charles Shields, La Puente, Calif. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Overton Funeral Home, the Rev. Virgil Allard, Emerald Grove Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in Emerald Grove Cemetery.
