HOULTON - Avis Shaw Connors, 94, went home to be with her Lord July 30, 2013, after a long illness at a local hospital. She was born Dec. 28, 1918, in Robbinson, daughter of Bert and Mary (Sherwood) Tapley.
Avis was a member of First Baptist Church, Houlton, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Her lifelong dream of a college degree was realized after seven years of study when she graduated in May 2005 from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She was also a published author of two children's books.
Avis was a wife, mother of two, grandmother of ten and great-grandmother of 22. She will be missed by her family, including son, Buddy Shaw and wife, Lorraine, of Littleton; grandsons, Timothy Shaw and family of Amherst, N.H. and Robert Shaw and wife and family of Muskogee, Okla.; and granddaughter, Kimberly York and husband, Brian, of Brewer. Avis also leaves her Houlton Regional Progressive Care family, where she resided for several years.
She was predeceased by two husbands, Ted Shaw in 1995 and Llewellyn Connors in 2003; eldest son, Terry Shaw in 2011; and two brothers, Vincent and Clarence Tapley.
Funeral services will be held at Dunn Funeral Home. Interment will be at Littleton Cemetery (Bangor Daily News 8/1/2013)
