Survived the battle of Goliad, Texas proved.
Twice as many Texan soldiers were killed in the massacre at Goliad as lost their lives in the Alamo. At Goliad only two men escaped. One was Henry G. Hudson. In that 1836 battle near Goliad, during the Texas Revolution, Hudson and another Texan soldier escaped from a burning building in a hail of bullets. It was night-time, and they managed to elude persuers. The other Texans surrendered to Santa Anna's superior Mexican forces. They were imprisoned briefly near the old Spanish mission, Presidio La Bahia, then murdered. It was not heroic to run, but Henry G. Hudson lived to tell about it. After 3 weeks of hardship, Henry G. Hudson made his way back to the Texan forces. Then he went home. Later, at the Battle of San Jacinto, the Texan army charged Santa Anna's troops with the cry:
"Remember Goliad!

Remember The Alamo!"
Victory by the Texans that day has been declared one of the seven decisive battles of history, because it changed the history of this continent, allowing the United Stated to expand from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. Ann Bashaw of Bishop, Texas, feels that Henry G. Hudson, her ancestor, should be recognized for the unique part he played at Goliad. She sent us a picture of Henry G. Hudson and we used in it in BULLETIN #39, p. 71. None of the Texas history books mention Henry G. Hudson at Goliad, though his service was rewarded by the new Texas government with a land grand, and his family was pominent later in Brazos Co. Too, the tourist brochures and the civic publicity on "Historic Goliad" omit his name. Ann Bashaw decided this probably was simply because no one had told them. She took a picture if Henry G. to Goliad and presented it to the curator there. They were glad to get the picture and the story. The picture will hang in Presidio La Bahia for the picture and the story. The picture will hang in Presidio La Bahia for all to see. Now, there is a reason for descendants and kin of Henry G.
