Florence F. Mattson, 84, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, passed away late on April 25, 2011, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire. She was born August 30, 1926, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to John and Caroline (nee Lahr) Wangen. She attended St Patrick’s grade and high school, graduating in 1944. Florence married Robert Mattson on May 7, 1949, in Eau Claire, and was a homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed her many hours volunteering at the St. Francis Food Pantry. She also worked at Uniroyal Tire Company and for a few years at Lincoln Elementary School lunch program. After Robert passed away on March 24, 1986, Florence enjoyed many trips traveling with and to visit her children.

She had a strong and unwavering faith in God and the Catholic Church and was a life-long member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus - St Patrick’s Catholic Parish. Florence will be remembered by her family and friends for her kindness, patience and beautiful spirit to all who knew her. She was always willing to help out when needed. Her greatest joy was seeing her children find success in life, raise wonderful families and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren thrive.

Survivors include her sons, Michael (Sue), Patrick, Jeffrey (Christine) and James (Rebecca) of Eau Claire, Dennis (Jim Parson) of Dallas, TX; and daughters, Catherine Mattson-Casteel (Bart) of Rapid City, SD, Linda Dutter, Ruth Huse (Chris) and Laura Lysy (Kevin) of Eau Claire, Brenda Jensen (Michael) of Fall Creek and Mary Woodley (Michael) of Elk Mound. She is further survived by brother-in-law, Patrick Scheffler and sisters-in-law, Joanne Scheffler, Phyllis Mattson, Jeannette, Barbara and Marjorie Wangen all of Eau Claire; 13 grandchildren: Kyle Dutter and Kayla Bauer, Luke Jensen, Joshua and Rachel Mattson, Amy Ward, Staci and Eric Huse, Jake and Nick Woodley, and Matt, Calvin and Connor Lysy; two great-granddaughters: Brynna Ward and Delaney Jensen; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, John and Caroline; brothers, John, Jr. (Sonny), Carl, Paul and Laverne; sisters, Viola (Tutz), Marie, Beatrice and Delores; son-in-law, Brad Dutter; granddaughter, Sara Jensen; and great-grandson, Bradley Huse.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Eau Claire on Friday, April 29, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 322 Fulton Street, and she will be laid to rest next to Robert in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Omaha Street.

Friends may call Thursday, April 28, 2011, from 4 to7 p.m. at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue, Eau Claire, and one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a Vigil Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family wants to thank Father Edmund Klimek, Father Bill Dhein, Sister Catherine Manning and the wonderful staff at Dove Healthcare, Care Partners Lindeman House and Sacred Heart Hospital who cared for Florence with much kindness and attention during her time of need.
