Robert R. Mattson, 62, 1706 Whipple St., died Monday, March 24, 1986 at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He was born in Eau Claire, where he married Florence Wangen May 7, 1949. He was an Army Air Corps (U.S. Air Force) veteran of World War II and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leave Clusters for duty with the 458th BG, Eighth AF. He retired from Uniroyal in 1983 after 30 years employment.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Roy L. (1945) and granddaughter Sarah Jensen. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Michael (Sue), James, both of Eau Claire, Patrick, Grand Forks, N.D., Dennis (Jim Parsons), Dallas, Texas, Jeffrey, U.S. Marine base, Guantanamo, Cuba; six daughters, Catherine (Bart) Casteel, Rapid City, S.D., Linda (Brad) Dutter, Brenda (Michael) Jensen, both of Eau Claire, Laura Mattson, at home, Ruth (Christopher) Huse, Platteville, Mary Mattson, Milwaukee; his mother, Lois Mattson, Eau Claire; a brother, Thomas, Eau Claire; two sisters, Phyllis Mattson, Joanne Scheffler, both of Eau Claire; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home, and at 1:30 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church, with burial in the church cemetery, where VFW Post 305 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a public prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m.
