John McDermott, 85, resident of the Pierson community south of Harrisburg, died in the Lightner hospital at 3 a.m. Sunday. He was the son of the late James and Polly Bush McDermott and is survived by his wife, Etta, to whom he had been married for 62 years. He is also survived by his children as follows; Mrs. Gertrude McDonald, Johnston City; Mrs. Hazel Lands, Harrisburg, Kenneth McDermott, West Frankfort, Mrs. Juanita Gott, Indianapolis Ind.; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and his brother, Frank McDermott of Harrisburg.
The body will lie in state at the Gibbons funeral home until the funeral at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Saline Ridge Baptist church. The Rev. Harry Hancock will officiate and burial will be in the Spring Valley cemetery.
