John B Lowther was the son of William Lowther abt 1795 NC abt d 1854/55 & Catharine Bunch
( Lowther/Smith ) 1803 NC - 1885 MS . his Mother ,Catherine & the majority of her Children moved to Rankin County about 1855 or 56.
John married Harriet Amanda Lane daughter of William & Mary Lane on 28 Dec 1856 Rankin ,MS .

His siblings were : Harvey: 1821 TN - 1886 MS,Harriet Adeline : 1823TN-1901 TX, William L: 1827 TN,
Sidney Ann : Aug 1826 TN, Sarah Catharine: 1831 TN -1911 MS, Warren Wilfred : 1835 TN- 1886 MS, Mary Evelyn : 1838 TN- 1918, Francis Marion: 1842 TN - 1919 MS , Louis B :1843 TN , & Ann E: 1848 TN

After the death of his beloved wife Harriet Amanda Born 01 October 1838 MS & died 08 Oct 1899 Rankin ,MS John remarried to Emeline Hankins Steen 15 April 1842 ( Holcomb/Lowther ) on April 1902.

Throughout his life at Steen Creek, it seems he ,John Lowther ,was well thought of by all who knew him,He served in the Civil War with his brothers (Co I 39th MS Inf ) ,a few newspaper clippings have him in public office, a time or two as a Supervisor Beat 1 and a beloved husband,father and grandfather to his family along with being a life long member of the Baptist Church.
He passed away 03 January 1918

Gravesite Details

While photographing this grave I found it laying on the ground ,a lot of graves in this cemetery seem to have disappeared throughout the years from simple neglect of repair ,I placed a photo of this on his memorial as well
