W. Frank Swartz, a former resident of the Terril community for many years, passed away at this home at Lakefield, Minn., at 8:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, after a lingering illness.

Walter Franklin Swartz, third son of Albert and Frances Eleanor Swartz, was born in Illinois, July 13, 1883, and died Monday, Nov. 4, 1957, at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 21 days.

As a boy, he moved with his family to Iowa, locating at Wesley and later moving to the Estherville community.

Frank was united in marriage to Elma McCaffe [McAffee] of Estherville in 1909. His wife passed away in 1911 leaving him with an infant daughter, now Mrs. Ronald Elkins of Lake Park.

On June 28, 1916, he wed Fern Ethel Wood of Terril. He was employed at that time by the Harker Lumber Company of Estherville. In the spring of 1917 they moved to a farm near Terril. In 1945 they moved to the farm which they purchased at Lakefield. This was their home until they retired in 1954, when they moved to a home in Lakefield.

To this union three daughters were born: Evelyn, Mrs. Ted Loudermilk of Lakefield, Minn.; Beth, Mrs. Gene Huebner, and Eileen, Mrs. Dale Blunt, both of Gnadenbutten, Ohio.

Mr. Swartz joined the Methodist church in early life and was a faithful member.

His wife, four daughters, 13 grandchildren and many other friends and relatives are left to mourn his passing.

Funeral services are being held today (Thursday) at the Methodist church at Lakefield with the Rev. Wittstruck officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery at Estherville.
