JOHN V. "JAY" SHIPLEY SR., 78, of 1030 Salem Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 4, at Washington County Hospital.
Born in Williamsport, he was the son of the late John "Jack" and Edna Showe Shipley. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was employed with Charlton Brothers Transportation Co Inc., for 17 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union No. 992.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Hall Shipley; daughter, Bonnie Lee Renner, Hagerstown; sister, Hilda Hollenbaugh, Hagerstown; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Shipley and John V. Shipley Jr.; sister, Goldie Mae Hurley; and two brothers, Harold Shipley and Albertus Shipley.
Services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at Minnich Funeral Home, E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Thomas E. Young Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. Graveside military honors will be provided by the Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42.
