Alta is survived by three children, Howard D. (Loma) Allen of Mancelona, B. Ulaine (Fred) Peplinski of Maple City and D. Ron (Pauline) Allen of Mancelona; and an adopted granddaughter, Ulaine Allen of Kalkaska. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, John Allen, in 1977; a son, Alvin Allen, in 1975; a daughter, Reta Edgerton, in 2001; five brothers, four sisters and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes this evening, June 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 1, at the funeral home, with Pastor Gerald Bauman officiating. Interment will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
