Mildred Atkins French, age 93, died Saturday, August 16, 2003, in MeadowView Terrace Long Term Care, Clarksville, Va.
Mrs. French was a graduate of Marion College High School, Marion, and Emory & Henry College, Emory, Va. She taught at Marion College for several years and retired from teaching at Marion Senior High School, Marion. She was a long-term, active member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Marion. She was a life time member of Marion Chapter No. 72 of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton (Tony) French.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Betty F. and David Russell of Clarksville; two granddaughters, Jennifer R. Whitlock of Burlington, N.C., and Sara R. Sweet of Raleigh, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Catherine Lee, Barrington Lee, Emma Grace Whitlock, all of Burlington, and Sullivan Paige Sweet of Raleigh.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, with Pastor James H. Bangle officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 10 until 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ebenezer Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1799, Marion, VA 24354.
