Cordelia was the daughter of Thomas Church and Elizabeth Massey, who were very early pioneers in the area near St. Louis, Missouri. Her parents married there on 02 Feb 1818, some 3 1/2 years before Missouri became a state.

Cordelia's mother and father soon settled in Calhoun County, Illinois, less than 100 miles northwest of St. Louis by way of the Mississippi River. Cordelia's oldest sister, Mary Piety Church, was born in Illinois, which seems to indicate the family may have been in Calhoun County by the early 1820's. At that time, the land was heavily forested and lumberers were busy clearing the land for farming.

Cordelia married Stanley Peets on 10 Jun 1860 in Hardin, Calhoun County, Illinois. They were the parents of 3 children.

Her husband, Stanley, passed away in 1898.

Cordelia moved to St. Louis with her daughter, Agnes Ruyle, who was also a widow. Agnes worked as a seamstress when preparations were being made for the 1904 World's Fair.

Cordelia returned to Calhoun County before her death there in 1917. At the time of her death, she was 77 years, 7 months and 6 days old. She was buried on Christmas Day 1917.
