David Earl Mansfield
BURLINGTON — David Earl Mansfield, 83, of 712 Kenwood Drive, died on Sunday, April 11, 2004, at the Hospice Home. He was a native of Alamance County and the son of the late Walter William and Myrtle Perry Mansfield.

He was the husband of Pansy Simpson Mansfield, who survives.
Earl retired from the Red Bird Cab Company after being the manager for over 40 years. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the Joy Sunday school Class. Earl was a member of the Methodist Men, where he previously served as chaplain. He led a nursing home ministry for many years at White Oak Manor. He was a member of the Burlington Sertoma Club serving as the past president. Earl served during World War II in the U.S. Army with the 717 th tank Battalion as a tank driver. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart due to injuries received in combat. Earl enjoyed fishing and golfing with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lou Ray and her husband, Billy, of Burlington, Nancy Thomas and her husband, Wade, of Graham and Marjorie Perry and her husband, James, of Newport, NC; sons and daughter-in-law, George Mansfield of Burlington and David Earl Mansfield, Jr. and his wife, Janice, of Graham; a stepdaughter and her husband, Carolyn, and Dane Newman of Weaverville; stepson, David Whitley of Snow Camp; 11 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; and eight greatstepgrandchildren; a sister, Frances Loftis of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Wright Mansfield; parents; daughter, Patricia Ann Neese; son, Kenneth Rayburn Mansfield; stepson, George Whitley; granddaughter, Sandra Ray Boggs; and a brother, Thomas Willard Mansfield.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Renee Burnette, and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, and at other times at the home.
