Carrie Wickwire, 93, of Rockwell, died Saturday, July 30, 2016, at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the Rockwell United Methodist Church, 303 Monroe, Rockwell, Iowa. Officiating will be the Rev. Travis Stevick. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the church. Following a luncheon interment will be in the Harlan Cemetery Dumont, Iowa. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Carrie Wickwire memorial fund. Carrie was born on the family farm near Clarksville, Iowa the daughter of Jake and Jennie Mehmen Sr.

She attended country school at Dumont. She helped on the farm and then became a helper for the neighbors. She is well remembered as the service woman at the Stanbrough Garage in Dougherty, changing tires and jump starting cars until his death.

She was united in marriage to Darrell Stanbrough on September 4, 1942 and he preceded her in death on May 1, 1975. She met him through friends.

She was then employed at United Hydraulics in Hampton until her retirement. She worked part time at the Rockwell Community Nursing home and cleaned the offices at the Rockwell Elevator for 20 years.

Following Darrell’s death she met Willard Lee Wickwire and was married on December 19, 1975 in South Dakota. They moved to Rockwell. Willard also predeceased her.

Carrie, in her younger years, enjoyed riding horses, camping, fishing, dining out and going anywhere the car or camper would take her. She was also a Hawkeye fan. She was a former member of the Women’s Bowling League in Greene and the Rockwell United Methodist Church.

Carrie enjoyed all her family and friends right up to her passing, Family was very important to her. The family would like to thank the Rockwell nursing home for all the excellent care she received while a resident there.

Carrie is survived by four children, Kenneth (Dawn) Stanbrough, Ackley, Lois (Marvin) Crooks, Mason City, Barbara (Butch) Gamble, Redfield, IA, and Judy (Larry) Mulder, Reinbeck, IA; two step children Marlys (Lloyd) Johnson, Rockwell, and Jack Morrison, Rockford, Ill; 12 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren, along with one sister, Gertrude (Charles) Hilsenbeck, of Jefferson, IA.

Preceding her in death are her parents, both husbands, son Victor Stanbrough in 1984, granddaughter Tammy Schulz in 2004, step-sons Robert Wickwire and Gary Wickwire, Hampton, step-daughter Mary Morrison, sisters Carol Rupe and Anna Mehmen, Effie Schipper, and Jeanette Wiese, brothers Jake Jr., and John Mehmen.
