Of Sapcote, Leicestershire, of Cheadle, Staffordshire.

Son and heir to Simon Basset and Isabel le Boteler. Grandson of Ralph Basset and Elizabeth Coleville, William le Boteler and Angharad, daughter of Gruffydd ap Madoc of Wales. Ralph was born between 1320 and 1325.

Husband of Sybil de Astley, daughter of Sir Giles de Astley and Alice Wolvey, daughter of Sir Thomas. Thye had two daughters, Alice, wife of Sir Robert Moton, and Eleanor, wife of John FitzWilliam.

Secondly, he was the husband of Alice Driby, the daughter of John de Driby of Breedon, Leicestershire and Amie, daughter of Peter de Gaveston, the 1st Earl of Cornwall and King Edward II's professed lover, widow of Robert Tuchet. They had one daughter, Elizabeth.

Ralph died testate, and was buried at Bytham. After his death, Alice remarried a third time to Sir Anketil Mallory of Kirkby Mallory, Leicestershire.
