Irma Remboldt, 101, Jamestown, formerly of Gackle, ND died Friday December 2, 2011 at the Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor in Jamestown, ND. Irma Jane Johnson was born to Peter H. and Margaret (Richcreek) Johnson on October 14th 1910 near Buchanan ND. Irma graduated from Jamestown High School in 1928 and Valley City State (Normal) in 1930. She and Edward K. (E.K.) Remboldt were married July 22, 1933 at Steele, ND and made their homes in Bismarck and Gackle until permanently moving to Gackle in 1939.

She taught country school south of Cleveland ND and school in Gackle. Over the years she owned the Gackle Cafe, a novelty shop and Irma's Tax Service (1959-1992). E.K. passed away in May 1981 and she sold her house and moved to Jamestown in 1992.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Gackle where she taught Sunday school and a member of Gleaners.

Irma was very involved in various activities in the Gackle community, region and state including: Gackle Fireside Literary Society, affiliated with the Federated Woman's Clubs - State President from 1956-58. She served in various capacities on the Gackle Hospital Board, Legion Auxiliary, and Dem-NPL district chair for over 20 years. In 1962 Irma was the first woman to elected chairperson of ND Governor's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped and served on President Kennedy's Committee on the Employment of the Physically Handicapped (1961-64). Irma served 34 years on South Central Library Board (Bookmobile) and was a Trustee on the North Dakota Library Board and received the Trustee Citation Award in 1988. She served 15 years on the Central Valley Health Unit (chair. 1981-83). N.D Governor John Davis presented Irma the 1960 North Dakota Community Betterment outstanding leadership award.

She is survived by her 3 children: Lois Schaffer, Gackle, ND; Tom (Donna) Remboldt, Bismarck, ND; and Dean (Terry) Remboldt, Jamestown, ND; 9 grand children, 20 great-grand children and 16 great-great grand children.

She was preceded in death by her husband (E.K.), 5 brothers, 1 sister, and son-in-law (Lloyd Schaffer).

The funeral service will be at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday December 7, 2011 in the Grace Baptist Church at Gackle, ND, with Pastor Tim Blackman, officiating.

The burial will be made in the Gackle Cemetery at Gackle, ND.
