Headstones Received.
Headstones for the following deceased soldiers were received by Commander Eli Frost by Pennsylvania railroad this morning: . . . Wm. H. Brown, private, Co K, 28th regiment colored troops, buried on E 5th street, . . . The relatives and friends are respectfully requested to call and receive these headstones and place them at the head of the graves of their friends.

The Maryland Historical Trust records the following on their Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties, inventory number FHD-1301 dated 31 July 2009: As many as 1,500 burials were made in Laboring Sons' cemetery, including at least five soldiers of the United States Colored Troops (USCT) who fought during the Civil War. . . W. H. Brown, a farm laborer from Libertytown, served in the 28th Regiment, USCT, Company K. In 1870, he was 35 years old and working as a day laborer in Uniontown, living with Sarah Brown, 30, and Fran L. Brown, 13.

From the Frederick Newel Post, Historic Preservation News For The City Of Frederick, Summer/Fall 2012: The African American Resources Cultural Heritage Society of Frederick County believes they have identified seven African American veterans who served in colored regiments during the American Civil War. . .W. H. Brown, Co. K, 28th USCT.
