Gonzalez, 83, went to meet his savior on Wednesday, July 21, 2010. He was born July 25, 1926 in Hillsboro, Texas.
He is preceded by his parents, Enrique and Virginia Gonzalez. Sisters: Manuela Martinez, Feliz Chapa, and Juanita Ornelas. Brothers: Tito, Placido, Refugio, and Juan Gonzalez.
Leo is survived by his beautiful wife of 59 years, Lilly Gonzalez. His children include daughters: Elida, (Ralph) Macias; Virginia, (Arnold) Barrera, Gracie, (Michael) Stelly; sons: Leo, (Andrea) Gonzalez; Henry, (Debbie) Gonzalez, 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Leo was a WWII veteran who sailed the seas as a merchant seaman. He traveled the world for 25 years and retired from Southwest Refinery in 1993. In his retirement, he enjoyed playing cribbage, eating sweetbread, and attending all his grandchildren's and great grand children's events. He loved his family. Leo will be remembered as a simple generous man who did great things for so many.
Pallbearers are his grandsons: Luke Barrera, Michael Barrera, Joseph Barrera, Leo Henry Gonzalez, Daniel Ross Garcia, Phillip Ryan Garcia, Matthew Henry Gonzalez
The viewing will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Friday, July 23, 2010, with a prayer service to be held at 7:00 p.m. the same evening at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, located at 8200 Old Brownsville Road. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow with full military honors.
