Daughter of Nathan Dixie & Mertie Adell Harris Hiatt...10 June 1952 married Harold E Larsen (dec'd)...Mother of Linda, Dennis, Alan, Don, Gerald, Mary Gene & Jo Ann

-------------------------
1918 ~ 2004

Louisa Gene Hiatt Larsen returned home to her Heavenly Father on August 5, 2004. She now rejoins her eternal companion, Harold, who recently went ahead to prepare the way for her.

Gene was born on December 23, 1918, in Provo, Utah, to Nathan Dixie and Mertie Adell Harris Hiatt. She served an LDS mission in the Southern States Mission. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in elementary education and became a school teacher, teaching for a time in the Mexican colonies. She met Harold E Larsen in Provo, and they were married on June 10, 1952. She thus inherited two energetic children from Harold's first marriage after his wife, Alda, passed away of cancer. Gene mothered these two children, Linda and Dennis, and loved them as her own. She and Harold were subsequently blessed with five additional children. She was a loving wife and mother, and her ability to love unconditionally was a key to binding the two families together as one. In her eyes they were all her children.

Gene will long be remembered for her wonderful homemade bread and home-canned fruits and vegetables. She loved to read, especially the scriptures and other inspirational books. She served faithfully in many church callings, and she and Harold served as ordinance workers in the Provo Temple for many years. She loved her children and grandchildren, and she and Harold helped to support them and many others on missions. Their home was a favorite gathering place for grandchildren who were in Provo attending school. She was a source of peace, faith, and quiet inspiration to her family, and taught them to be kind and look for the good in others. We will greatly miss our mother, grandmother, and friend.

Gene is survived by her seven children: Linda Smith (Roy), Dennis (Kathleen), Alan (Shirlene), Don (Susan), Gerald (Debbie), Mary Gene Fuller (Gene), and Jo Ann Mills; 34 grandchildren; seven great-grand-children; and her brother-in-law Arnold Barney. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold and her siblings: Marion, Clyde, Martin, and Farrar Hiatt, and Dawn-Nita Barney.

Funeral services will be held Tues., August 10, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oak Hills Seventh Ward Chapel, 1038 N. 1200 E., in Provo. Friends may call on Monday, August 9, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Berg Mortuary, 185 E. Center Street, in Provo, or on Tuesday at the church, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Provo City Cemetery.
