Harold E Larsen, 87, returned home to his Heavenly Father on June 30, 2004, following a recent heart attack.

He was born February 16, 1917, in Burrville, Utah, to Enoch Rolf and Mabel Malinda Christiansen Larsen. He grew up in Richfield, Utah, and later served an LDS mission in South Africa. He attended Brigham Young University, where he studied chemistry.

During World War II he served as a communications specialist in the Army Signal Corps, serving in North Africa, Sicily, and Europe. While stationed at Fort Ord, California, he met Alda Margarette Bihler. They were married August 20, 1945, in the Salt Lake Temple and were blessed with two children, Linda and Dennis. Alda passed away from cancer on April 14, 1951. On June 10, 1952, he married Louisa Gene Hiatt, in the Salt Lake Temple, and they lived in Provo, Utah. They were blessed with five additional children.

Harold was always a resourceful, inventive man. He built his own house, learning as he went, and lived there for over half a century. He loved to fix, build, or invent things rather than buy new ones. He loved gardening, and worked in his large garden until his heart attack this spring.

He served faithfully in many callings in the LDS church, and he and his wife served as ordinance workers in the Provo Temple for many years. He was a devoted husband. He loved his children and grandchildren, and quietly helped to support them and many others on missions. His home was a favorite gathering place for his grandchildren who were in Provo attending school. He was always a great example of selfless service to others. We will greatly miss our husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Harold is survived by his wife, Gene; his seven children, Linda Smith (Roy), Dennis (Kathleen), Alan (Shirlene), Don (Susan), Gerald (Debbie), Mary Gene Fuller (Gene), and Jo Ann Mills (Scott); 34 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his brothers Reed and David, and his sister Carol Gulbransen. In addition to Alda, he was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Miriam Olcott, Genevieve Dennison, Lamont, Don, Ruth Payne Craw, and Roland.

Funeral services will be held Tues., July 6, 11:00 a.m., at the Oak Hills Seventh Ward chapel, 1038 N. 1200 E., in Provo. Friends may call on Monday, July 5, 6-8 p.m., at the same location, or on Tuesday, 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to the funeral.

Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery under the direction of Berg Mortuary of Provo. Military honors will be provided by VFW District no. 4.
