Funeral services were held at Beulah Sunday afternoon for R. L. Ammons, mayor of Beulah and prominent business man of the Bolivar county town, who passed away Saturday at noon from a heart attack with which he was stricken Friday at the Bank of Beulah of which he was a cashier. The last sad rites were held from the home with the Rev. Cecil Jones and the Rev. George Gay officiating.

Mr. Ammons was born in Abbeville, S.C. on Nov. 16, 1877. A number of years ago he came to Mississippi and opened Swift & Company's office in Greenville. He moved to Beulah in 1914 and for the past 17 years has been cashier of the Bank of Beulah. He was a Mason and a member of the Baptist Church.

In 1915 he was mar[r]ied to Alberta Nichols [sic Nicols] of Tallulah, La., who survives him. In addition he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Gerald Shelby of Shrewsbury, Mass.; a son, Robert Lee, Jr.; three little girls, Ophelia, Alberta and Betty Jane, and an infant son, George.
