Prior to World War-I, Anthony worked as a bank clerk. He enlisted in Company I, 1st Infantry, North Dakota National Guard, at Wahpeton, on April 24, 1917.
Later that summer he accepted a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Supply Corps. On 14 August 1918, Anthony was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and served overseas before being discharged on 5 September 1919 at Camp Dix, NJ
After returning home, Anthony worked for his father in the family flour milling business. After his father's death, Anthony became Co-Owner of the Math Braun Company Mill.
About 1926, Anthony married Viola E. Puetz in Wahpeton, ND; he was age 32, she was 33. Viola was the oldest of four children born to Mathias & Katherine (Nepper) Puetz.

Anthony died at age 66 in Breckenridge, MN.
