A native of Chambersburg, Robert Theodore Nitterhouse,Sr. was the 5th of 10 children born to Barnett and Ida (Wingate) Nitterhouse. He married Elizabeth McDonald on March 6, 1918.
Robert was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ; Burt J. Aspers, Post No. 46, American Legion; Charles M.Nitterhouse Post 1599, VFW and the 40 et 8. He had worked as a bricklayer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, infant daughter Evelyn and sons Paul and Ralph, as well as 5 of his siblings.
Sons Robert, Jr and Earl, daughter Thelma Nitterhouse Funk, 5 grandchildren, sisters Katherine (Mrs. John C.) Heckman of White Deer, PA and Bernice (Mrs. Cecil W.) Bly of Strasburg, Va; brothers Howard L of Valley Stream, NY and Russel T of Chamberbsurg survived him.
