Carol Ann McCarter, 66, passed away Friday, June 12, 2009, in Midland, Texas.

Born Nov. 26, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she was a daughter of Charldeen L. Bozanek and the late Emil G. Bozanek.

Mrs. McCarter graduated from Edmunds High School, at which time her spirit of philanthropy began by her receiving the highest Girl Scout award bestowed to a Girl Scout, while also serving as youth leader for Harmony Presbyterian Church. Carol attended the University of South Carolina and graduated from LaSalle University with a bachelor of arts in fashion merchandising.

She married Donald R. McCarter on Nov. 20, 1976, in Birmingham, Ala.

Carol served diligently in the Midland and Odessa area, serving on the boards for Safe Place Midland, Special Olympics Region 18, Permian Basin Fair and Exposition, Permian Drug Abuse Council, BPW Texas Federation of Business and Professional Women, in addition to her volunteer efforts with the Midland Chamber of Commerce, Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Soldiers for Today and Tomorrow and the American Cancer Society. In addition, Carol was a member of the First Baptist Church of Midland, where she worshiped and served with the ladies group and Daniel Group Ministry. Carol was active in the "Red Hatters" and founding member of the Permian Basin Bridal Association.

Carol leaves in loving memory: her husband, Donald R. McCarter of Midland; her mother, Charldeen Bozanek of Sumter; a daughter, Debra D. Northcutt and husband, Lynn, of Midland; a son, Paul E. Dacus of Dallas, Texas; a stepdaughter, Chole Cheshire of Hanceville, Ala.; a granddaughter, Meagan E. Floyd; a grandson, Montgomery D. Floyd; a great-grandson, Bryant K. Floyd, all of Midland; two sisters, Emilie B. Josephs of Loris and Nancy M. Seale and husband, Julian, of Summerville; along with extended family members throughout Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Colorado, Iowa and Texas.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela F. Hilbish.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. Dave Hilbish officiating.
