Augustus Blackstone, the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wilford Blackstone was born on the home farm in White Oak Springs, Dec. 21, 1841, and died Aug. 12. 1923 at the home of his son Adelbert L., Waukesha, Wis.
As a young man he followed the usual life of a farmer's son, and completed his education at an academy at Hazel Green, after which he returned to the farm and devoted his energies to its improvement. On Sept. 1, 1870, he was married to Mary Jane Richardson. They were the parents of two sons, both of whom are living, Adelbert L. of Waukesha, and Bert A. of Chicago.
He later moved with his family to this city, where he built a fine residence, and forming a partnership with Henry Meloy, they purchased the hardware business from George Proctor. He continued that business a number of years, selling his interest to his partner. After the death of his wife, in 1904, he made his home with his sons.
Deceased was a man of strict business integrity, a kind and affectionate husband and father. As a citizen and neighbor he was held in highest esteem. He has lived to a ripe old age and gone to his reward leaving not an enemy. The remains were brought to this city Tuesday, August 14, and buried beside his wife in the family lot in Evergreen cemetery with Masonic honors, of which order he had long been a member.- Pick and Gad.
