FARMINGTON - Leatrice Oakes Orr, 83, of Farmington, died on June 3, 2013, in the comfort of her own home in Farmington, where she had been lovingly cared for. She was born in Rangeley on Feb. 21, 1930. Her parents were Harold and Dorothy Oakes. Leatrice graduated from Wilton Academy in 1948 and from the Farmington State Teachers College and got her master's degree in education from the University of Maine, Orono.

She taught in elementary schools for 40 years. Three of those years were in Orono at the Bennock St. School and 37 years in Farmington at the W. G. Mallett School and Cascade Brook School, and during this time she trained many student teachers and served on many educational committees. She was instrumental in originating the Affirmative Action program for School Administrative District 9, serving as chairwoman for many years.

Leatrice was a member of Old South Congregational Church, Farmington, and was actively involved with the Franklin County 4-H Beef Boosters, where her husband was a leader for more than 25 years.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Orr, whom she married on July 13, 1952. She also is survived by two sons, Raymond Orr Jr., and his wife, Deborah, of Farmington; and David Orr, of Wilton; six grandchildren, Scott Orr, of Lewiston, Brian Orr and Kevin Orr, both of Farmington, Katie Orr, of Temple; Jason Orr, of Farmington, and Jessica Orr Merrill, of Wilton; seven great-grandchildren, Ceairra Orr, of Van Buren, Natalee Orr, Jaycee Orr and Taygen Orr, all of Farmington, Mackenzie Orr and Madison Orr, both of Lewiston, and Kilee Merrill, of Wilton; one sister, Frances Beaulier and her husband, Richard, of Mercer; and one brother, Donald Oakes, and his wife, Louise, of Jay; and a sister-in-law, Bonita Oakes, of Newburgh.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Kittredge and Shirley Bernard; and two brothers, Robert Oakes and Russell Oakes.
