He was born December 12, 1936, in Buena Vista to the late Phillip Brooks and Virginia Fay Welch Bean. He was retired from AEP and was an amateur radio operator. Along with his parents Roger was preceded in death by a son Timothy Joe Bean, a brother Sam Bean, 2 sisters: Peggy Berry and Judy Bean, and his best friend David Richey.
Roger is survived by his wife Judy Hicks Bean who he married on June 9, 1954, a son Roger Phillip (Connie) Bean Jr. and a daughter Christie (Tim) Kauble, all of Marion, a daughter-in-law Michelle Bean of Portsmouth, two brothers: John Shockley of West Portsmouth and Leon Bean of Lucasville, three sisters: Reba Robinson of McDermott, Linda Cooper of Columbus and Helen Smith of Stout, five grandchildren: Roger Phillip (Lynn) Bean III, Mike Bean, Joshua (Jenny) Bean, Ryan (Amber) Zempter and Sarah (Nathan) Cocherl, five great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Isabelle and Jacob Bean and Peyton and Holden Zempter. Also surviving is a dear friend Sandy Williams and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Jimmy McCullough and Sidney Dillow officiating. Interment will be in McKendree Cemetery at Stout. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday starting at 11 a.m.
