On April 20, 1862, Aaron enlisted in Co. K of the 22 Regiment of the South Carolina Confederate Volunteers. His brothers Joel, Lewis and Richard all enlisted in the same regiment. On Feb. 20, 1864 Aaron was on special duty at Fort Sumter. On Apr. 28, he was home long enough to make out a will. On July 30, he and his brother Joel were killed at the siege of Petersburg, Virginia. Their names appear on the South Carolina memorial plaque at Blandford Church.
There is also a Veterans Administration marker for Aaron Cain at the Center Methodist Church Cemetery in Oconee County, South Carolina.
