NICHOLS - Lillian F. Hooks, 85, passed away peacefully at Loris Extended Care on Friday, May 31, 2013 with her family by her side.
She was born on May 3, 1928 in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late John Rufus and Lurline Sanford Fogle. She was the last living of their six children. A devoted wife and loving mother, she was married to the late John P. "Jack" Hooks Sr. who served as Magistrate for the Floyds Township community for over thirty years. Lillian and Jack were married for 54 years and together they owned a general merchandise store. Mrs. Hooks was a licensed cosmetologist and owned and operated Lillian's Beauty Shop for 22 years. She was a faithful and active member of Wannamaker Baptist Church where she served as a choir member and a former Sunday school teacher.
Mrs. Hooks was predeceased by a son, James Carol Hooks.
She is survived by her four children, John P. Hooks Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC, Sylvia J. Graham (Dale) of Loris, Tommy W. Hooks of Nichols, and Laura H. Hardee (Lewis) of Loris; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Wannamaker Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2013 directed by Meares Funeral Home of Mullins. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols.
