Henry F. Smith

(as printed in the Polk Progress 03-05-1942)

It has pleased the Lord of life and death to summon from this vale of tears to Himself in Heaven the soul of our departed brother in Christ, Henry F. Smith.

The departed was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Smith and was born October 8, 1870 in Germany. As a very young child he together with his parents immigrated to America and settled at Bloomfield, Iowa. At the age of 13 he accompanied his parents to Nebraska and lived on a farm near Arborville.

As an infant, he was made a child of God by Holy Baptism and in the year of 1888 he renewed his baptismal covenant by the rite of confirmation in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Polk, Nebr. All his life time he was a faithful member of this congregation and with the help of God kept his faith unto the end according to the solemn vow, which he made at the time of his confirmation.

It was on February 13, 1896 that Henry F. Smith was joined in Holy Wedlock to Minnie Blase. Only last year they were permitted to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary. This union was blessed with six children, all living.
On February 25th, 1942, our brother died as the result of an internal obstruction reaching the age of 71 years, 4 months and 13 days.

He leaves to mourn his blessed departure, his widow, Mrs. Minnie Smith, his children, Martin Smith, Sophie Dose, Norma Rhode, three sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, nine grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. E.W. Hahn, two brothers, John Smith, Ashton, Neb. And Chas. Smith Aurora; one aunt, Mrs. H. Lau, Crookkston, Minn., and many other relatives and a host of friends.
