Annie E. Strausbaugh was a strong, capable individual. Late in her life, my father's Great Grandmother lived in Baltimore, Maryland with the family of her granddaughter, Claire Viola Stallman Eyster, my father's mother. My father liked Annie E. very much and described her as "smart, she was a teacher, could discuss any topic and often did." My dad's sister, Aunt Helen, did NOT like her and considered her "outspoken, forward, too business-like in her ways and did not know her place as a woman." Annie E. made various loans to friends and relatives at 5% interest.

Annie E. was born in York, PA to Jacob and Sarah Brown. She had one sister close to her age--Fanny Brown (later Faber). Fanny is remembered in Annie's will. There were three older siblings--Caroline (later Greiman), Alexander and Lucinda. All were christened at Christ Lutheran Church of York, PA.

In the 1870 Census she is Anna E. Miller, with her two year old, Eva Elisabeth Miller, boarding with Jacob & Sarah & Fanny. She was expecting her second child who would be born October, 1870: Harry L. Miller(#100429800)

Annie married William Miller of Baltimore, MD at the Asbury Methodist Church in York a few months after delivering Eva Elisabeth in 1868. There is also a christening record for Eva. I have not found Annie Miller in the 1880, but her daughter Eva is in York (1880) with her Aunt Fanny & Uncle George; her son Harry is living with his grandparents, Jacob & Sarah Brown, in York in the 1880 census.

In about 1884, Annie married Albert Strausbaugh (1852-1905) in York, PA. Albert is listed as the stepfather in the 1888 wedding license documents for Eva Elizabeth Miller to marry Frederick H. Stallman.

After Albert died in 1905, Annie was the Assistant Matron at the York County Almshouse and House of Employment and was such in the 1910 Census. She lived with her son Harry L. in the final years of her life. She died at the home of her son in York, PA in 1922. She left a will and a modest estate.

I have collected a variety of documents if anyone is interested I am happy to share them. Also, they are on my ancestry.com tree.
