John Goldsmith of 801 First avenue, died at 2 o'clock this morning from a stroke of apoplexy sustained Saturday last. The Funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home. Rev. Dr. W. W. Painter officiating. The interment is in Cedar Bluff cemetery.
The decedent was a native of the Isle of Man, coming to Rockford at an early day. By trade he was a shoemaker and plied that business until advancing years rendered it impossible. His wife passed away some years ago and since that time he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Eugene Griswold. He was 81 years of age, but had enjoyed excellent health until Saturday morning, when he was suddenly stricken. He did not regain consciousness before death.
He is survived by the daughter, Mrs. Griswold, and one son, Fred of Chicago, who was summon ed to the bedside of his father on Saturday.
