Henry Newton Herod, age 97, of Grapeland, Texas died May 7, 2013 at his residence. Burial in Guiceland Cemetery is under the direction of Bailey & Foster. He was born August 22, 1915 in Salmon, TX. to Daniel M. and Jo Della Gaines Herod. Mr. Herod was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a retired principal from Santa Rosa Independent School District and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Herod was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stephen Earl Herod; sister, Bonnie Hood Neel; and brothers, Dan Herod, and Samuel Herod. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Jackson Herod of Grapeland; daughters, Raena Lott and husband Michael of Grapeland; daughter-in-law, Elaine Herod of Montgomery; brother Joe Billy Herod of Kerrville; grandchildren, Brianna Silva, Corena Silva, and Michael Lott III.
