Azariah is the Hebrew name of one of the prophet Daniel's companions in the Old Testament. He was one of the 3 men thrown into the fiery furnace. We commonly know him by his Babylonian name Abednego. Azariah is the man who prayed the prayer that precedes the Song of the Three in the apocryphal section of the book of Daniel.
In addition to the 8 children listed as links, Azariah had a son Henry, born September 13, 1845. Henry married Mary Van Meter Dare on January 18, 1870 and had several children.
The 1880 US Census shows Azariah as a farmer at Upper Alloways Creek, Salem County. His household consists of his wife and his youngest daughter, Mary Matilda. A NJ death record gives his date of death as May 13, 1897.
Obituary published in Woodstown, Salem Co, NJ newspaper "The Monitor-Register" on Friday, May 20th 1898:
"Azariah Dickinson, father of Mrs. John Wriggins, of this place, died at the home of the latter on Friday last, at the ripe age of 86 years. He had been in failing health for some tine. The deceased long resided in the vicinity of Aldine, and about eight years ago moved to Woodstown, where his wife died, and then he went to live with his daughter, Mrs. Wriggins, at Harrisonville. He was an old time Methodist, and long one of the leading members of the Aldine M. E. Church. He died in the confident hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ."
